What makes a carrier good to work with, and how to tell before you're appointed

Commission level gets all the attention. It's rarely what makes or breaks a carrier for a producer.

Issue speed and how clean the process is. E-app that works on a phone, point-of-sale decisions, phone interviews that don't lose the client. A carrier that takes three weeks to issue an FE policy costs you persistency you'll never see in the commission schedule.

Draft and billing behavior. Social Security billing options, flexible draft dates, how they handle a bounced first draft. This is persistency infrastructure.

Commission timing and accuracy. Paid daily or weekly, advances honored as stated, statements you can reconcile. Ask agents who've been there a year.

Underwriting consistency. Same case, same answer, twice. Field underwriting guides that match what the home office actually does.

Claims. Ask around. A carrier that pays claims fast and kindly is the one whose clients refer.

Agent support. A human who answers the phone and knows the product.

Reply with a carrier you'd write again and the one specific reason. Reviews with a number attached help more than adjectives.
