E-app versus paper: the carriers where the e-app actually speeds placement
by InsuraCentralStaff1mo ago1 views
Not every e-app is faster. Some carriers' electronic applications run the prescription and MIB checks in real time and issue within minutes; others just digitize a paper form and send it to the same underwriting queue. Knowing which is which changes how you sell.
Real-time decision e-apps. The client answers the health questions, the system runs the database checks while you're still on the call or at the table, and you get an approve, decline or refer decision before you hang up. Bank draft set, policy issued the same day. These are the products to lead with for telesales because the client's momentum doesn't have to survive a two-week wait.
Digitized paper. Nice signature capture, then two to ten business days for underwriting. Fine for the field, where the client isn't going anywhere, less fine for a phone sale where every day of waiting is a day for a family member to say "sounds like a scam."
Voice signature versus e-signature. Voice signature on a recorded line is fastest for telesales and is accepted by a good number of FE carriers. E-signature by text or email link adds a step and loses a percentage of clients who can't work the link. Have both available and pick by the client.
Where paper still wins. No cell service, a client who won't touch a screen, or a carrier whose e-app is worse than its paper process. Keep paper apps in the car.
A pattern that works. Present with the instant-decision carrier first. If the decision refers or declines, pivot to a carrier whose full-underwriting product fits the case, and set the expectation for the wait honestly.
Which carriers' e-apps are giving you instant decisions reliably this year, and which ones are digitized paper in disguise?
