Product changes happen mid-year: how to keep your book straight

Caps get reset. Rates get repriced. An underwriting guide quietly changes a knockout. A product gets withdrawn in a state. If you're writing five carriers, something changed this month.

A simple routine that keeps it from biting:

  • One place for carrier notices. Read them the day they arrive, tag the ones that affect what you sell, ignore the rest.
  • A product sheet you own. Per carrier: current products, tiers, draft options, e-app quirks, phone-interview requirements, and the date you last checked. Update it when a notice changes it.
  • Pending business review weekly. Anything older than the carrier's normal issue time gets a call.
  • Repricing means a conversation. If a product you presented last week got more expensive, the client hears it from you with the new number, not from a policy that arrives wrong.
  • Withdrawals and state approvals. Check that the product you present is approved in the client's state before the app, especially near state lines.

What changed for you recently that you almost missed? Post the category of change, not the confidential notice.
