Spanish-speaking leads: what changes with a bilingual setter

Spanish-language final expense leads are cheaper, respond well to mail, and convert badly for English-only agents. The usual fix is a bilingual appointment setter, and it changes more than the language.

What the setter does. Confirms the card, does the first pass on health questions, sets a time, and tells the family that the agent coming is trustworthy. That last part matters more in this market than in most. The setter is the reference.

What the agent still needs. Enough Spanish to run the health questions and the draft conversation with the setter on speaker or in person, or a setter who comes to the table. A bilingual family member at the table is common and helpful, but the app questions still need to be answered by the insured.

Compliance notes. Applications and disclosures need to be understood by the applicant. Several carriers offer Spanish-language applications and illustrations; use them. Recorded voice signature in Spanish is accepted by some carriers and not others. A family member translating the app for a non-English-speaking insured is a contestability risk if it's ever disputed.

Product notes. Guaranteed issue and graded products are sold too often in this market because they're easy. Many of these clients qualify for level benefit. Run the health questions properly.

The numbers agents report. Contact rates on Spanish-language mailers run higher than English in many markets. Sit-to-close is strong when the family trusts the setter. Persistency is good when the draft date matches the pay cycle, which is often weekly or biweekly rather than monthly.

Comp for the setter. Hourly plus a per-sit bonus is common. Per-sale only creates pressure to oversell on the phone.

If you're working this market, what's your setter arrangement and are you using Spanish e-apps?
