AI in a life agent's day in 2026: what actually saves time and what's a gimmick

Every vendor put 'AI' on the box this year. Here's the sort from agents who've tried it, plus our own view, since we build some of this.
Saves real time.
- Call notes written from the recording. The disposition, the summary and the follow-up date land on the lead without typing. Agents who fought this for a year stop fighting it after a week.
- Underwriting guidance at the point of quote. Health answers in, likely carrier fits out, before you pick a product. It doesn't replace the guide; it tells you which guide to open.
- Practice calls. Running an objection with a simulated prospect before you run it with a real one. Nobody loves it and everyone who does it improves.
- Thread and document summaries. Long email chains, long notes, long forum threads, summarized so you can decide whether to read the whole thing.
A gimmick, or worse.
- AI-written outreach at volume. It reads like AI, it gets ignored, and unregistered volume gets filtered anyway.
- 'AI leads.' A lead is a person who asked. Software doesn't make people ask.
- Fully automated AI voice calls to consumers. Beyond the answer rates, the FCC treats an AI-generated voice as a prerecorded call under TCPA, which means consent rules you probably don't have.
The rule. AI that removes typing, searching and second-guessing from a day you're already working is worth paying for. AI that promises to do the selling for you is selling to you.
What's saved you time this year? Post it, and post what you turned off.
