How to explain an IUL to a 30-year-old who saw it on TikTok

The prospect already 'knows' what an IUL is. They saw a video: put money in, it grows with the market, never loses, take it out tax-free, the rich do it. Your job is to get to the true version without losing them. Here's a sequence that works.

Start with what's right. 'A lot of that is real. It's a life insurance policy that builds cash value tied to an index, with a floor so a bad market year doesn't take your cash value down.' You've earned the next five minutes.

Then the three words they didn't hear. Cap, charges, time. 'There's a cap on how much of a good year you get. There are charges inside the policy every year, and they go up as you age. And it takes years before the cash value is worth more than you put in.' Say all three before the illustration.

Then the illustration, middle column first. Not the max rate. The moderate one. Then the guaranteed column. 'This is the one where everything goes wrong. If you'd be okay with this column, the product fits.'

Then the question that sorts the case. 'Are you funding this for twenty years?' If the answer is 'I don't know', it's probably a term case with a savings account, and you should say so.

The compliance note. This client is the one who files a complaint in year six if they didn't understand the charges. The presentation above is what protects both of you. Write in the note that you showed all three columns.

Post the sentence that got a skeptical 30-year-old to understand the cap. The good ones are short.
